Carmen Ferreri, aka Carmen: “Sicily? It’s my muse”
After a brief break, Sicilian singer Carmen Ferreri, aka Carmen, made her return in June with her latest single titled “Tutte le Volte”. This track, which the artist herself describes as an intimate journey through the challenges and triumphs of love, is the first release in a new series of singles. Carmen first gained widespread recognition after finishing as the runner-up in the 2017 edition of the popular television show ‘Amici di Maria De Filippi’, right after Irama. Her talent and charismatic presence won over both the audience and the show’s mentors, and her song “La Complicità” remained in the Top 10 for several weeks. Sicilian Secrets interviewed her.
Q: You gained public recognition by participating in ‘Amici di Maria De Filippi’ in 2017. What do you take away from that experience?
A: Amici will always be one of the most important chapters of my journey. Thanks to the show, I met people who are now fundamental parts of my life. I grew a lot, both personally and artistically, during my time at the school. I’m proud to have been part of that show because it gave me so much, especially the loyal support of many people who continue to listen to me with love and absolute dedication, and to whom I owe everything.
Q: After your TV experience, how did your singing career progress?
A: Slowly but surely, I began working in the studio to be as productive as possible, delving deeper into myself to write new music.
Q: On June 21st, your new single “Tutte le Volte” was released. What can you tell us about this musical project?
A: “Tutte le Volte” is a journey between victory and defeat, a cycle that love makes us relive every time…to fall in love and get hurt again and again. It’s an anthem to resilience and the complexity of human relationships, a sincere and passionate narrative that captures the very essence of love. Written in collaboration with the lyricist Chiara Pizzi and produced by Renato D’Amico, the single promises to touch the deepest chords in the hearts of my fans.
Q: You’re Sicilian, so I have to ask: how much does your homeland influence your work?
A: My Sicily is a muse to me. It gives me so much inspiration, and I sing about it in my songs.
Q: Is there a place in Sicily where you dream of performing? ‘Carmen Ferreri, live at…’
A: All of Sicily is beautiful; I couldn’t pick just one place.
Q: You often write your own songs. How does the creative process of a new track develop?
A: First and foremost, I like to surround myself with people who strongly believe in my project. Then, little by little, we work on bringing my/our story into the music.
Q: What are Carmen Ferreri’s dreams? Who would you love to duet with?
A: There are many artists I look up to and would love to collaborate with. Duetting with the giants of Italian music would definitely be a dream.
Q: Lastly, what are your upcoming projects?
A: We have many future projects. My team and I are working intensely, and we hope to accomplish them all!
