Silvia Bruno takes the first steps as an actress on the set of “Il Paradiso delle Signore”
She made a mark on the set of “Il Paradiso delle Signore” thanks to the role of Agata Puglisi. Silvia Bruno, a Sicilian girl from Agrigento, brings to the stage her freshness and the dreams of a young actress. Every day on Rai 1, she shares the stage with an important cast: what about her future? The desire to continue telling beautiful stories on TV but also in theater and why not…in cinema! Sicilian Secrets interviewed her.
Q: You’re a very young actress, when did you realize this would be your job?
A: I got into acting when I was fifteen, by chance. I accompanied a friend to an acting workshop, and from then on, I never stopped. I remember having so much fun and feeling completely at ease. It was love at first sight! So, I started attending an afternoon acting course in Sicily – because I still had to finish high school – and I did my first shows. Finally, when I was 18, I moved to Rome where I continued my studies.
Q: “Il Paradiso delle Signore”, thanks to the role of Agata Puglisi, is giving you great visibility and has allowed you to be part of an important cast. What can you tell us about this experience? How did it start?
A: When the audition for Agata came along, I immediately read the character description and thought, ‘I have to be her’. I did two auditions (a self-tape and an in-person callback), and after two weeks, the artistic director called me to tell me that Agata would be me. It was very exciting. Working on the set of ‘Il Paradiso delle Signore’ is a unique experience; we shoot almost every day and many scenes per day. For a young actress, it’s a tremendous opportunity for both artistic and personal growth.
Q: What do Silvia Bruno and Agata Puglisi have in common? And in which way are they different?
A: Agata and Silvia share the same hometown, family composition (I also have a mom, a dad, and an older sister), and love for art. Agata is younger than me, perhaps in some ways she reminds me of myself a few years ago. She’s more insecure and naive, but she certainly knows how to pursue her goals.
Q: How did you study to take on this role?
A: As I said before, I did two auditions. Certainly, I studied the era to fully understand the motivations that drive Agata to act in one way rather than another, and also to have a suitable look.
Q: Agata is Sicilian like you. How strong is your bond with your homeland?
A: I am very attached to my homeland; I was born and raised in Agrigento. I always say that my first home is the sea. Every time I go back, whether it’s summer or winter, I immediately rush to say ‘hi’ the sea. Sicily is always with me, and surely sharing the same origin with Agata has helped me a lot.
Q: If you had to choose a place in Sicily to act – a theater or a location that could become the set of a film or a TV series – where would you go?
A: If I had to choose a theater to act in Sicily, I would immediately go back to the Greek Theater in Segesta. For a film, however, I would say Gibellina!
Q: In your professional future, what do you see? Only TV or also cinema and theater?
A: I hope to continue telling beautiful stories…in theater, on TV, and at cinema! At the moment, “Il Paradiso delle Signore” is a very intense and all-embracing job, so I don’t have any new projects.
Q: One last question: what do you wish for your future as an actress? Is there a role you would like to play?
A: For my future, I hope to continue doing this job and to be able to work on new roles, even very different from me.
